Title of Work: Sin Título
Date: 2022
Medium: Foraged oak galls
Dimensions: 48 inches by 48 inches by 2.5 inches
I foraged these oak galls in Griffith Park, Simi Valley, Escondido, and the Verdugo Mountains in Burbank and Glendale. Foraging immerses me in the landscape and its creative energy deepening my connection to the natural and the spiritual. I become cognizant of being of this earth engendered by its creative force. This profound relationship to nature and spirit transcends borders, countries, and the physical realm.
Oak galls occur when a wasp injects its eggs into the branch of an oak tree. The tree responds by forming an oak gall around the eggs. The galls provide food and protection to allow the eggs to metamorphose into a wasp.
