Title of Work: Gosh Dang Gator
Date: 2021
Medium: Wooden pallet, spray paint, acrylic paint, inkjet prints, papier mâché, oak galls, glue
Dimensions: 40 inches by 20.5 inches by 5 inches each

These wooden pallet pieces explore my identity as an immigrant in the US and my memories of displacement from Nicaragua due to a communist regime.

This pallet was not labeled so most likely made in the United States and used for domestic shipping. I found it in Burbank, Los Angeles.

Oak galls occur when a wasp injects its larva into the branch of an oak tree. The tree responds by forming an oak gall around the larva. The galls provide food and protection to allow the larva to metamorphose into a wasp.
