This is a previously exhibited installation specially reimagined for the site of Other Places Art Fair 6 held on September 14, 2024. This new iteration titled FIN celebrates the wonder of pre-cinematic technologies and the history of film. The work takes inspiration from magic lantern and phantasmagoria shows, Eadweard Muybridge's photographic motion studies, zoopraxiscopes, and zoetropes. It engages with the history of cinema drawing on the early silent films of Georges Méliès and the Lumière Brothers and the meticulous mise-en-scène of present day films with their considered set constructions, locations, lighting, titles, music, and sound design.
The site's windy conditions rotate the whirlybird wind turbines, animate the fluttering of the hand-woven tapestries, and bend the smoke from the burning frankincense. An audio collage composed of manipulated cell phone field recordings and sound effects emits from a pair of horn speakers. Throughout the day, the shifting, natural light creates subtle changes in colors, darks, and lights. At sunset, work lights are switched on further contributing to the visual progression of the installation.
